Inspired by the photograph Life is not Easy by Makiko Kitama, residents at Felician Village collaboratively created a magical account of “a bird, buzzing, clapping, whistling and singing” which inspired a young girl “to run through grass, leaves, and twigs... and try to catch ‘em.” Their story inspired this 2-layer screen print, which is an iteration of an illustration from a larger work, The Book of Connections. The large-scale interactive artist book served as a traveling exhibition, showcased a collection of eight stories, inspired a dance performance, and celebrated the creativity of residents in memory care communities across the region.
