Beyond Organic is a nonprofit organization that focuses on healthy food education, and they have big plans for a parking lot south of W. Mitchell Street in Milwaukee. They would like to develop a five-story, 85,000-square-foot facility that would house a store, restaurant, event space, classroom, aquaponics operation, and vegetable growing operation. The site plan also includes a rooftop farm and solar panels. Beyond Organic is led by Laura Michele, and they are working with Korb + Associates Architects on the proposal. Their request to grant the organization the right to negotiate for the purchase is currently pending before the Common Council, and they can negotiate until November 30th with a possible three-month extension.
The proposed site’s location is in Common Council President Jose G. Perez’s district. The Common Council will need to approve any future land sales and zoning changes for the property.
